Welcome to the Interactive Internet Version of Northwest Lower Michigan's Green Map - A SEEDS Project -

Organic FarmersA map is a graphic representation of a place. Because of their visual nature, maps, allow the user to see a wide variety of information from a geographical perspective far more powerful than a simple list of locations. This map allows you to view locations within five major watersheds in the northwest corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. It is focused on the places and spaces of particular ecological importance within this region. By using an internationally agreed upon set of icons this map is a valuable addition to the worldwide network of Green Maps.

This Green Map highlights the businesses & organizations (such as conservancies, environmental advocates, organic food providers, etc.) and places (such as State and National Parks, champion trees, nationally designated Natural Rivers, small farms, etc.) that thoughtfully steward our local natural resources.

**SEEDS is looking for a Green Map Intern. Contact SEEDS Executive Director Sarna Salzman or more information.

Get Started!

Use this interactive web-based Green Map to:

  • Locate goods and services that support the local economy and environment.
  • Graphically relate these locations to trails, watershed boundaries, ecological corridors, habitats, and other natural resources that make our region beautiful, unique, and precious.
  • Illustrate the relationships - and sometimes conflicts - between things like watershed boundaries and jurisdictional boundaries.
  • Educate students and neighbors about land use and economic planning with an ecological and local focus.

Donate to the Project! Support this project by donating money or services to help keep this Green Map up-to-date and create educational experiences focused on the ecology and economy of our region.

Contact SEEDS Executive Director Sarna Salzman or more information. We can provide:

  • More information about each of the locations seen on the Green Map
  • Paper versions of this map
  • Educational programming and curriculum related to the resources shown on the Green Map
  • Help starting new green mapping projects in your locale!
