The City of Traverse is making progress towards its 2020 goal of meeting 100% of its operational electricity demand with clean, renewable energy sources.
In 2018, Traverse City began purchasing the power generated by a local 1MW solar array. So, while total electricity usage for the City increased by nearly 10%, the Greenhouse Gasses associated with this use decreased by about 30% due to the change in power source.
In 2018, 38% of the City’s operational electricity was supplied by clean, renewable energy. The rest of Traverse City Light & Power’s renewable portfolio was at 9.2%.
Did you know? Anyone in Michigan can ask your electric company to give you their “Green Rate” and make sure your electricity is 100% renewable!
