EcoSchool
SEEDS EcoSchool is supported by federal funding for summer camp and after school programs. This support has been suddenly frozen with no guarantee that it will ever be released.
SEEDS is in the middle of hosting 12 free summer camps across the region. If we stop now, it would leave 250 students and their families suddenly without planned childcare in July and next year. Kids who have been looking forward to field trips and summer friends, and their families who count on SEEDS for childcare, will suddenly have nowhere to go.
SEEDS is unwilling to abandon the students and local families who are relying on us. We are committed to finishing the remaining weeks of summer camp as planned and promised. However, if the previously committed federal grant funding is clawed back, SEEDS could lose up to $5,665,000 intended to serve K-12 students in Benzie, Kaleva, Mesick, Fife Lake, Kalkaska, and Marion between now and summer 2029.

SEEDS EcoSchool brings place-based learning opportunities to students across Northern Michigan. Teaching staff prioritize hands-on and outdoor activities that develop leadership, life skills, and resilience.
Since 2009, thousands of K-12 students have been greeted by name by SEEDS staff and shepherded into high quality, engaging, and safe after school spaces to explore and learn. Every day, these students get dinner, healthy role models and mentors, and really fun hands-on activities thanks to support from Michigan Department of Education.
