In 2021, SEEDS commissioned Resource Recycling Systems (RRS) to produce a comprehensive report assessing the current state of organic waste diversion efforts in the 10-county northwest lower Michigan region.
The report identified actionable next steps in support of the goal of diverting an additional 25,000 tons each year by 2030. In an effort to disseminate this information to each of the 10 counties ahead of them drafting their State-mandated Materials Management Plans (MMPs), as well as to educate and raise awareness in our communities, SEEDS compiled concise county-specific versions of the RRS report’s findings into 10 one-page flyers, and distributed them to interested stakeholders.
The one-pagers present graphs and summaries of each county and regional statistics, comparisons to other counties, and county-specific recommendations. As new information is garnered, the one-pagers will be updated and shared with the MMP Designated Planning Agencies, MMP Committees, and public-interest groups in the spirit of encouraging counties to embed a plan for organic waste diversion into their MMPs.
