Connor, Former EcoCorps Crew Member
It was while working as an EcoCorps crew member in 2021 and 2022 that Connor knew that he wanted a career that supported public health and the environment. He graduated with a degree in environmental science and now works for Triterra, an environmental consulting firm in Grand Rapids. The work he does testing water and soil samples at industrial sites helps his team determine contamination levels and recommend any necessary remediation strategies to remove pollution.
“My time with EcoCorps made me want to make a difference in the community, and really hit home that I wanted to help people have a healthy environment to live in.”
Connor said that EcoCorps helped solidify his love for the outdoors and that he prefers to be outside rather than at a desk all day. He loved the variety of projects that EcoCorps completed and the chance to learn about conservation methods and sustainable practices through hands-on experience.
“I had so much fun in EcoCorps. It was a blast and such a positive experience!”
EcoCorps also helped prepare him for his future career through teamwork, problem solving, and being adaptable, all skills that he uses now.
“Teamwork was a huge part of EcoCorps. It taught you how to be a team player and adapt to situations that came up while out in the field. You have to be able to problem solve and learn how to value other people under stress.”EcoCorps connects individuals like Connor to the natural world and their community in a meaningful and lasting way, inspiring them to prioritize making the world a better place for all.
